After taking an honours degree in philosophy and an MA in town planning, Deborah trained as a jeweler with Michael Meyer-Ringe in Berlin. Returning to the UK in the early 1980s, she set up her own studio in North Yorkshire. Her jewelry was exhibited in several leading galleries including Godfrey and Watt (Harrogate), the Craft and Design Centre Gallery (Leeds) and Galerie Lalique (Berlin). In the course of extended sojourns in Los Angeles in the 1990s, she augmented her skills as a metalworker with specialist courses in hand engraving and stone setting at the Gemological Institute of America. After a quarter century at the goldsmith’s bench, she extended her horizons to embrace the construction of mixed-media boxed works that were still technically related to her metalwork skills. More recently she has been painting full-time at her studios in Berwick upon Tweed and Edinburgh, and is currently exploring with great excitement the world of ceramics.
